Declination graph

The Declination Graph is a screen that displays changes in the declination of celestial bodies (their north-south deviation from the celestial equator) as a line graph. The natal (birth-time) declination is shown as a horizontal dashed line, while changes due to transits or progressions/solar arcs are shown as curves, allowing you to visually check for parallel and contraparallel formations and out-of-bounds (OOB) status.

Prerequisite: This screen does not have fields for entering birth data. Please enter and save your birth data on the top page (input screen) first before opening this page. If no data is found, a message saying "No birth data found" will be displayed. After choosing your settings, press the "Show Graph" button (it does not update automatically).

1. Screen Layout

There are no tabs; the screen has a three-column layout: left (settings panel), center (graph), and right (P/CP aspect list) (these stack vertically when the screen width is narrow). The left panel contains the birth data display, display mode and period settings, the graph display button, export buttons, the legend, and an explanation of how to read the graph.

2. Display Mode and Period Settings

Item Options Default Notes
Display mode Transit / Progression・SA Transit The "Period" options change depending on the selection
Start date Date picker Today The starting date of the graph
Period (for Transit) 1 month / 3 months / 6 months / 1 year 6 months -
Period (for Progression・SA) 5 years / 10 years / 50 years 10 years -

In "Progression・SA" mode, the 10 celestial bodies are calculated using secondary progression, and ASC・MC are calculated using Solar Arc. After choosing your settings, press the "Show Graph" button.

If you want to change the birth data, you can return to the top page using the "Change Natal Data" button.

3. How to Read the Graph

Meaning of the Axes

The horizontal axis (X-axis) is date/time (in Transit mode the scale is monthly, in Progression・SA mode it is yearly), and the vertical axis (Y-axis) is declination (in degrees). Turning ON "Show ±0° at Center" switches to a signed graph in which 0° is at the center, with north declination shown as positive and south declination as negative (when OFF, absolute values are shown).

Types of Lines

Line Meaning
Dashed line (horizontal) Natal (birth-time) declination. A reference line that does not move over time
Solid line (curve) Change in declination due to transit or progression・SA

ASC・MC in Progression・SA mode are drawn as short dashed (dotted-looking) lines, distinguishing them from the other bodies (solid lines). "(SA)" is appended to the end of their display names.

Color coding

Each celestial body is displayed in its own distinct color (the 10 bodies from the Sun and Moon through Pluto, plus ASC・MC in Progression・SA mode). The color swatches in the legend correspond to the line colors on the graph.

Other elements shown on the graph

Tooltip display on the declination graph

Hovering the cursor over the graph shows a list of each celestial body's declination value at that date/time

4. Out of Bounds (OOB)

When declination exceeds the obliquity of the ecliptic (approximately 23.44°), it enters a special state called "Out of Bounds." This reference line (23.4393°) is always shown on the graph as a red dashed line. Turning ON the "OOB Background Color" toggle applies a light red background to the range outside this reference line, making the out-of-bounds range immediately visible.

5. List of Parallels / Contraparallels

Coincidences between declinations are treated separately from ecliptic longitude aspects, as "Parallel" and "Contraparallel."

Term Meaning
Parallel (P) The moment when the declination of a moving body matches the declination of a natal body with the same sign (north/south) and a similar value
Contraparallel (CP) The moment when the signs are opposite but the absolute values match

Formed parallels and contraparallels are listed in the "P / CP Aspect List" table on the right side of the graph, along with the date, the moving body, the target natal body, the type (P in blue text, CP in red text), and the degree value. Since individual markers are not shown on the graph itself, check this list table for details.

6. Toggling Display via the Legend

The legend at the bottom of the left panel has two groups, "Natal (horizontal line)" and "Transiting (curve)," with a checkbox for each celestial body. Unchecking a box temporarily hides that body's line from the graph. Use this when there are too many lines and the graph is hard to read.

7. Export (PDF / Copy Table)

Button Action
📄 Export PDF Downloads the currently displayed graph as a landscape A4 PDF (filename "decl_氏名.pdf"). If pressed before displaying a graph, a guidance message is shown.
📋 Copy Table Copies the P/CP aspect list to the clipboard as tab-separated text. If the list is empty, a message to that effect is displayed.
